The Second Volume of the ‘Iranian Herbal Pharmacopoeia’ to be compiled
Dr. Amir Mahdi Taleb, the faculty member of Deputy for Education of Ministry of Health and Medical Education, said, “The compilation of 40 out of 100 entries of the second volume has been completed so far.”
In respect to the compilation of the second volume of the ‘Iranian Herbal Pharmacopoeia’, Dr. Amir Mahdi Taleb said, “More than 70 of the country’s experts and academic members of medical universities have been collaborating for about eight years to compile this book.”
This faculty member of Deputy for Education of Ministry of Health and Medical Education, added, “The experts in the fields of pharmacognosy, pharmacology and botany have been collaborating together for the compilation of the ‘Iranian Herbal Pharmacopoeia’. Firstly, there is the description of the medical properties of the plants and their standards based on the most prominent active compounds, then the other parts of the book deals with the study of the morphology of the plants and their medical parts.”
This award winner of the 32nd Islamic Republic of Iran Book of the Year, went on to say, “The ‘Iranian Herbal Pharmacopoeia’ is the official and documented reference book for medicinal plants production units and industries. Moreover, the governmental inspection units can also be the target audience of this book.”
Taleb said, “Up to this date, 40 monographs have been prepared by the experts for the compilation of the ‘Iranian Herbal Pharmacopoeia’. These monographs have been studied by scientific referees and will then be given to literary editors.”
“The compilation of this book does not just involve the text but also, there needs to be scientific and laboratory activities including tests on plants. The second volume is similar to the first one in that it contains 100 plants.” Said the academic member of Iranian Traditional Medicine Association.
He added, “This book is supported by Deputy for Research of Ministry of Health and Medical Education and administered by the Deputy for Food and Drugs of the same ministry.”
Considering the revision of the first volume of the ‘Iranian Herbal Pharmacopoeia’, Taleb said, “The most important reason for the revision of the first volume of the ‘Iranian Herbal Pharmacopoeia’ is to keep it up to date. The translation of this book is also being considered.”
