Educational Workshop on Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry Was Held

Educational workshop on Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry was held by National Network of Research and Technology in Medicinal Plants, in Medicinal Plants and Drugs Research Institute of Shahid Beheshti University.

On Wednesday 14.10.2015, the educational workshop on Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry was held in Medicinal Plants and Drugs Research Institute of Shahid Beheshti University, for eight hours. This workshop, which was both theoretical and practical, was taught by Dr. Alireza Ghassempour and Dr. Hassan Rezadoust.

In this workshop, the importance and application of the liquid chromatograph attached to the mass spectrometry detector was studied. This was done with the aim of separation, determination of molecular weight and structural elucidation of chemical compounds.

This technique of “liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS)” is a qualitative and quantitative analysis method which has a unique application in different scientific branches, such as chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology, nanotechnology, etc. Furthermore, the following fields can also be mentioned: metabolomics, proteomics, laboratory diagnosis, structure elucidation of organic compounds with specific units, metabolic disorders, residue measurement of herbicides and pesticides as well as the quantification of medicinal compounds.
