Agreement Signed Between Ministry of Agriculture Jihad and Tehran Municipality: Development and Expansion of Medicinal Plants’ Cultivation and Consumption

In a meeting attended by the executive manager of Medicinal Plants Plan of Ministry of Agriculture Jihad and the mayor of Tehran’s District 13, an agreement was signed between the two parties concerning bilateral collaboration in terms of Development and Expansion of Medicinal Plants’ Cultivation and Consumption.

Aligned with the aim of scientific and economic development of country’s medicinal plants and herbal medicinal sector, a meeting was held to stress the necessity of collaboration within the country’s medicinal plants’ sector, and was attended by Dr Hossein Zeinali, executive manager of Medicinal Plants Plan of Ministry of Agriculture Jihad, and Morteza Rahmanzadeh. This meeting was aimed at signing a bilateral collaborative agreement in terms of development and expansion of medicinal plants and its products’ cultivation and consumption, as well as at promoting healthy lifestyle in urban communities. The agreement was in 5 articles, 1 clause and 2 copies and signed in the conference hall of the headquarters on 16 October, 2018.

This agreement was signed in order to promote conservation, revival, cultivation development, exploitation of natural and herbal resources of east Tehran as well as education, cultural encouragement of cultivation and consumption of medicinal plants focusing on development priorities of the Medicinal Plants’ National Plan, providing educational environment, boosting medicinal plants’ knowledge of production and consumption especially in educational centers and universities, utilizing the scientific and technical capacities of Tehran’s municipality in order to encourage the culture for production and consumption of medicinal plants. This agreement is valid for two solar years and it is extendable in case of both parties’ consent and consistency in bilateral activities.

According to this report, presentation of technical consultation for medicinal plants cultivation in Sorkheh Hesar area, and introduction of institutions which provide for cultural and development of medicinal plants that are suitable for Sorkheh Hesar area, identification of investors interested in development and promotion of medicinal plants to use facilities and infrastructures of municipality as well as capacities for medicinal plants cultivation in this area and compilation of a plan to preserve the rare species, are all among the obligation of the Medicinal Plants’ National Plan Department of Ministry of Agriculture Jihad.

The commitments of Municipality of Tehran’s District 13 in this agreement are as follows: help identify, encourage and organize experts seeking employment and other experienced people in order to establish medicinal plants farm, present periodical report on the development of the area in terms of medicinal plants plan in Sorkheh Hesar, aid with providing information and awareness in Tehran via variety of media, provide the necessary grounds for business plans relevant to the industry of medicinal plants and its products, provide development incentive for investors confirmed by Ministry of Agriculture Jihad in the field of medicinal plants, collaborate in collecting and completing information on medicinal plants within its mandate, assist Ministry of Agriculture Jihad in benefiting from the latest information technology in order to establish networks as well as virtual markets for investment.

In this meeting, the executive manager of Medicinal Plants Plan of Ministry of Agriculture Jihad stated the importance of medicinal plants’ consumption and stressed its promotion among the nation.

Furthermore, the mayor of Tehran’s District 13, expressed his willingness for the bilateral collaboration considering the existing capacities in this district and promoting the culture of medicinal plants consumption, he said, “We are prepared to establish medicinal plants bazaar in the forest park of Sorkheh Hesar.”

The mayor of Tehran’s District 13 also pointed out that Rosa damascena museum in the forest park of Sorkheh Hesar area will be set up. This was welcomed by the executive manager of Medicinal Plants Plan of Ministry of Agriculture Jihad and it was planned to visit the project together.
