The Production of about 600 Tons of Medicinal Plants in Qom Province

The director of Horticulture Department of Ministry of Agriculture Jihad of Qom province announced that 594 tonnes of medicinal plants were produced last year.

In an interview with Mehr reporter and in response to which medicinal plants is Qom capable of producing, Moslem Ebrahimi noted, “Most medicinal plants are cultivable in the climate and condition of Qom province; however, in terms of economy, the cultivable plants are peppermint, spearmint, dill, lemon beebrush, chamomile, cumin, Salix aegyptiaca , Rosa damascena and saffron.

Referring to medicinal plants being goal oriented, he added, “About ten medicinal plants of peppermint, spearmint, dill, lemon beebrush, chamomile, cumin, Salix aegyptiaca, Rosa damascena and saffron are cultivated in Qom province.”

This director of Horticulture Department of Ministry of Agriculture Jihad of Qom province  went on to say,”Last year, the production of medicinal plants in Qom province was more than 594 tonnes in total.”

He indicated that the area under the cultivation of mint in Qom province is 8.25 hectares and 330 tonnes are produced, the area under the cultivation of peppermint is one hectare and 25 tonnes are produced, the area under the cultivation of cumin is three hectares and one eighth of a tonne is produced and the area under the cultivation of dill is 5 hectares and 165 tonnes are produced.

Ebrahimi continued, “The area under the cultivation of lemon beebrush is 0.25 hectare and the production is 2.2 tonnes, the area under the cultivation of chamomile is 1.5 hectare and the production is 2.25 tonnes, the area under the cultivation of Salix aegyptiaca is 6 hectares and the production is 18 tonnes, the area under the cultivation of Rosa damascena is 90 hectares and the production is 45 tonnes and finally the area under the cultivation of saffron is 8.5 hectares and the production is 7.2 tonnes.”

In the end he said, “The area under the cultivation of medicinal plants in Qom province is 123 hectares and the production of these plants are 594 tonnes.”
