Theoretical and practical workshop on the study of differential protein expression in medicinal plants was held by National Network of Research and Technology in Medicinal Plants.

This workshop which was held in National Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology on Wednesday September the 16th by National Network of Research and Technology in Medicinal Plants, took 8 hours and was taught by Dr. Tahmasebi and Mr. Behrouzi.

The study of proteins as the products of genes is of great importance, because these genes determine the  morphological characteristics as well as the properties of the plants. In this workshop, by means of one dimensional and two dimensional electrophoresis method, the protein profiles of the Nigella sativa seeds were studied.

In order to do this, seeds from seven different parts of Iran were collected, and after the extraction of protein by different methods, the efficiencies of these methods in extraction of proteins were compared.

Electrophoresis analysis was done  after determining  the protein levels and unification of the densities, , in such a way that after the preparation of SDS-PAGE gels with specific densities, the samples were loaded on them and ran on the course of the gel.
