Key Issues to be Presented in Educational Workshops of ‘Third Festival on Medicinal Plants and Traditional Medicine’

Reported by Public Relation and Information Center of Vice-presidency for Science and Technology, Ali Ebrahimi Varkiani, the head of educational workshops of the Third National Festival and Exhibition of Natural-based Products and Traditional Medicine of Iran, which is to be held with the collaboration of National Council for Science and Technology Development of Medicinal Plants and Traditional Medicine, said, “The Third Festival on Iranian Medicinal Plants and Traditional Medicine has been planned in a way that the important and key issues relevant are to be presented in the form of educational workshops and technical panels through seminars of researchers in the field of medicinal plants and traditional medicine industry.”
He further noted, “This is done to achieve the educational, cultural and economic responsibilities of National Council for Science and Technology Development of Medicinal Plants and Traditional Medicine of Vice-presidency for Science and Technology, which are also among the goals of Medicinal Plants and Traditional Medicine Document.”
The adviser of National Council for Science and Technology Development of Medicinal Plants and Traditional Medicine of Vice-presidency for Science and Technology, named several goals of holding such workshops, goals such as increasing the general and technical knowledge of the society in using medicinal plants and medical products accurately as well as optimizing the use of traditional medicine services.
According to him, another goal of these educational and technical workshops, is to familiarize the different parts of the society with natural and complementary products and their proper consumption in order to increase the society’s level of health.
Among other goals of these technical workshops, Ebrahimi Varkiani pointed out, the following: Modifying Iranian lifestyle according to the six traditional medicine principles, hazards and challenges related to pollutants in the Iranian’s food carts, preparing the grounds for interaction and constructive exchange of ideas among the scientific, manufacturing, administrative, domestic and foreign commercial sectors and introducing and institutionalizing the technical sections of techno-markets in medicinal plants and traditional medicine industry.
As stated by him, the educational and technical workshops of the Third National Festival and Exhibition of Natural-based Products and Traditional Medicine of Iran,have other goals such as: familiarizing students and learners with different fields of medicinal plants and herbal medicine, promoting the issue of entrepreneurship, introducing intellectual property, preparing a constructive competitive environment among manufacturing companies and other active sectors in medicinal plants.
The secretary of Technology and Entrepreneurship Development Work Team of National Council for Science and Technology Development of Medicinal Plants and Traditional Medicine of Vice-presidency for Science and Technology said, “The important goals in this regard are to provide information and response to the questions and ambiguities of the investors contemplating to participate in this field, to lead the medicinal plant sector to a stable and growing economy, to introduce the latest scientific and research achievements in the country and approved scientific capabilities for investments.
He explained, “By holding such technical workshops, it is hoped to obtain the following achievements: planning for the promotion of Iran’s share in participating in the world’s market by strengthening the economic and commercial foundation of the knowledge-based companies, attending to the cultivation pattern and reducing the production costs and speeding the change from science to wealth through commercializing the domestic technologies within the country.”
Ebrahimi Varkiani also said, “Holding these educational and technical workshops for medicinal plants and traditional medicine will bring about assurance for researchers by providing the grounds for selling and transferring technology, improving research and development activities and promoting competition in domestic and international markets.”
In the end he concluded, “Proper management and using the latest science, utilizing modern technologies, entrepreneurship and making job opportunities are all among the other goals of holding educational and technical workshops on medicinal plants and traditional medicine.”
