The Introduction of Iran’s Strength in Medicinal Plants and Traditional Medicine in Seoul National University

After the holding of the educational workshop in National University of Seoul, the capital of South Korea, Iran’s strength in the field of medicinal plants and traditional medicine was introduced.

Deputy dean of International Affairs, Faculty of Traditional Medicine, Tehran University of Medical Sciences, and the International Affairs Adviser of Traditional Medicine Department of Ministry of Health and Medical Education, attended this educational workshop and announced the following, “In this program, the capacity of the Iranian Traditional Medicine in presenting medical services, education, and joint research projects at international levels was presented to the participants.”

Dr. Amir Houman Kazemi further noted that in this educational workshop entitling ‘Modernization of Plant-based Products and Traditional Medicine’, attended by representatives from universities of Iran, South Korea, China, Japan and Taiwan which was held, Iranian traditional medicine, its history and its similarities and differences with the Chinese traditional medicine was explained to the participants.

He also specified that Iran’s improvement in terms of traditional and complementary medicine, Iran’s academic situation of traditional medicine, the achievements of Traditional Medicine Department of Ministry of Health and Medical Education, Traditional Medicine Faculties, Iran’s strengths in the field of medicinal plants and standardization of natural-based products were all among the things that were dealt with in this workshop, which was followed by the attendees admiration and praise.

This representative from Iran further indicated that in this workshop by Faculty of Traditional Medicine, Tehran University of Medical Sciences, the capacities for the exchange of students and professors as well as scientific and research collaboration of Tehran University of Medical Sciences were introduced to the participants.

Later in the conference, the representatives from other countries introduced, discussed and exchanged ideas in terms of the situation of traditional medicine in their own countries as well as the challenges regarding herbal medicine industrialization and natural-based products.

Among the officials from Tehran University of Medical Sciences, who took part in this conference, Dr. Rezaeezadeh, the dean of Faculty of Traditional Medicine, Tehran University of Medical Sciences, Dr. Kazemi, deputy dean of this faculty,  Dr. Zargaran and Dr. Abbasian, the faculty members of this faculty and Traditional Medicine Department of Ministry of Health and Medical Education, can be named.

According to Dr. Kazemi, this gathering was a great opportunity for the introduction of the scientific and research strengths of our traditional medicine especially in terms of medicinal plants. It is believed that through actively participating in such scientific conferences, globalization of Iran’s traditional medicine can be achieved.
