Medicinal Plants Development Document in Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province, Compiled

Medicinal Plants Development Document has been arranged and compiled in this province, “Cultivation development and mass production of medicinal plants are among the most important goals of this strategic document.”

Referring to the increase of at least 500 hectares of this province’s arable lands under medicinal plants cultivation in Iran’s 6th Development Plan, Deputy of Improving Plant Production of Agriculture Jihad Organization in Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari, Hamid Reza Danesh, added, “It is in the agenda of Iran’s 12th government to change the cultivation pattern from plants that require considerable amount of water to drought tolerant plants as well as to develop medicinal plants cultivation.”

He acknowledged the growth of 400 medicinal plant species in the province as a sign of arable lands in this region for the production development of such species, then added, “At the moment, 600 hectares of dry farms and steep lands of the counties of this province are under the cultivation of medicinal plants such as saffron and Rosa damascena.”

Deputy of Improving Plant Production of Agriculture Jihad Organization in Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari also noted, “There are so many capacities available to develop medicinal plants cultivation in this province, therefore, due to the expansion of drought in this region, we must make the most of this opportunity to boost agriculture.”

He stressed, “Medicinal plants cultivation development in rural areas will lead to employment and revenue generation.”

Based on a report by IRNA, over one million, five hundred, thousand tonnes of orchard, farm, livestock and fishery products are annually produced in Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari province. In this province, the area under the cultivation is 270,000 hectares and 66,000 people benefit from agriculture.
