Supreme Leader’s Fatwa on Medicinal Plants Collection from Nature

Supreme Leader’s Fatwa on Medicinal Plants Collection from Nature

The Supreme Leader of Islamic Republic of Iran, Ayatollah Khamenei in response to a question on collection of medicinal plants from nature said, it is only legitimate if the rules and regulations are observed, the necessary licenses are obtained and that the collection is not forbidden by Iran’s Department of Environment.

The website of Ayatollah Khamenei, KHAMENEI.IR, coincidental with natural resources week, announced that, it will answer all the religious questions regarding environment.

In one of the questions on the collection of medicinal plants from nature, the Supreme Leader deemed it legitimate based on two issues, first, the consent of the landowner (in case the land has a private owner), second, getting the legal licenses from the relevant organization (Department of Environment).

In line with the aforementioned subject, it is religiously illegitimate to collect medicinal plants illegally and excessively and without obtaining the relevant legal licenses from Department of Environment, which will then lead to the destruction of rangelands and genetic resources of our country.

Below you will find the question and its answer:

1-  what is the ruling on collecting and using edible medicinal plants found in the desert?

It is permissible if the land does not have a private owner, and that it is not illegal and Department of Environment does not forbid it.
