Collaborating with National Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, National Network of Research and Technology in Medicinal Plants is planning on holding a theoretical and practical workshop on “The Study of Cytotoxicity of Medicinal Plants’ Active Compounds on Cancer Cell lines”, on January 13th.
Deputy minister of Ornamental Plants and Floral Affairs of Ministry of Agriculture Jihad noted that 94 percent of the world’s saffron is produced in Iran and that last year, 159 tonnes of saffron was exported.
The formal website of the Fifth National Congress on Medicinal Plants has been opened and it is prepared to accept the abstract of the papers.

4th national congress in medicinal plants (of Iran) was held on the 12th and 13th of May in Razi International Conference Center, Iran University of Medical Sciences.
Professor Salehi Said: “Although we have 8000 varieties of plant species in Iran and a desirable manpower status, there is a missing ring in the field of basic standard materials from the viewpoint of plants and their extract.”
The manager of medicine and pharmacy work group of National Network of Research and Technology in Medicinal Plants, Dr. Seyed Faraz Mojab said: “We must try to export the processed medicinal plants instead of the raw ones.”
The Secretary of National Network of Research and Technology in Medicinal Plants, and the scientific secretary of the 4th National Congress in Medicinal Plants, Dr. Peyman Salehi announced that more than 2000 papers were sent to the secretariat of the Congress, 1200 of which, were accepted by the scientific committee.
Consultant of the Council of Science and Technology Development of Medicinal Plants and Traditional Medicine, Ali Ebrahimi Varkiani announced that this council will support those companies that wish to enter veterinary herbal medicine field.
